Imagined as a waterfront retreat just outside of urbanity for a couple with fast paced professional lives, this house takes cues from enduring patterns inherent to the site. These patterns include both natural and human made artifacts, ranging from driftwood and wind swept sand patterns found on the beachfront, to the form and materiality of vernacular buildings preserved at a historic property directly across the South River. The overall form of the house, as well as the placement of individual program pieces, is driven by the desire to capitalize on the incredible views of the river. A slight bend in the plan as it faces the river points both the primary bedroom and an outdoor living room directly up the inlet. Essentially every other space is strung out along the length of the house allowing them all to.
